Cunningtons LLP: Community & Social Responsibility

Charity Work

Cunningtons LLP encourage staff to take up roles within the local community as well as sponsoring a number of local causes and charities.

The firm is also a patron of the Essex Symphony Orchestra.

In addition, the partners and staff at Cunningtons LLP are proud to participate in various charity events from Red Nose Day to Jeans for Genes day throughout the course of the year.

From 2013 to 2017 Cunningtons has elected the J’s Hospice in Chelmsford as it’s chosen charity and will be actively supporting the J’s throughout the course of the year.

What is the J’s Hospice?

The J’s Hospice is an emerging hospice, developed through the drive and vision of the local community to see enhanced support for young adults with life limiting conditions. The J’s aim is to offer all young adults aged 18 to 40 with a life limiting illness in Essex, the choice to receive the care and support that they need in the comfort and security of their own home. The J’s Hospice helps young adults with this condition through the transition from children’s to adult services and bridges the gap by providing age appropriate care and support.

The inspiration behind the J’s Hospice

The J’s was formed in memory of Jonathan Whiffin who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 3 years. Jonathan used children’s hospices from the age of 14 to the time he died. Jonathan was a fun-loving, outdoors typical teenager who enjoyed socialising with people of all ages. His greatest love was dolphins and the J’s logo represents this. During his teen years, his mum Denise realised there was a dire need for hospice and respite care once young adults outgrew children’s hospices. Whatever their circumstances, young adults have the right to expect equality of access to the physical environment and all other aspects.

More On Community & Social Responsibility

As well as supporting the J’s Hospice as the firm’s chosen charity, our friendly staff and Partners very often take some of their spare time to help other charities that are dear to their hearts. In total they’ve helped raise over £7000 for various good causes of the last year or so.

Here are some examples of the kinds of events they have been involved in.

One of longest standing and senior cashier staff, Pat Walker completed the Half Moon walk in May 2017, starting off at 11.30pm at Clapham Common and walking 15.1 miles around London back to Clapham Common. Ladies and gents dressed up in decorated Bras and pounded the streets raising money for breast cancer research. The weather was fairly kind, but rained towards the end. Pat raised approximately £500 in sponsorship!

Managing Partner Paul Fenton along with conveyancer Jane Cox helped the J’s Hospice with their annual Pedal for the J’s event on 30th April 2017. There were 50, 35 or 15 mile routes around the Essex countryside. Paul volunteered to help with the early slot, which meant a very keen 6am start, helping to set up at the start site and with registrations. Jane marshalled all day at a point on route, helping direct cyclists at traffic junctions and giving a cheering shout of support to the entrants.

Claire Pickford & Debbie Stone, our head cashier, took part in a fund raising motorbike run on Saturday 1st April 2017, Claire rode pillion with Debbie on her Virago “Ruby”, the ride was around the Essex countryside, starting in Coggeshall & rode via Finchingfield, where they stopped for a pit stop, then ending up at Carver Barracks near Saffron Walden. There was a display of Army vehicles and a demonstration by a Trike which has a jet fueled engine. There were around a couple of hundred bikers, riding lambrettas, sports bikes, cruisers – Harleys through to huge trikes. Police & marshalls blocked road junctions along the route so they could all ride safely through without any interactions with car drivers, the pack was a moving barricade of bikes!

Funds raised went to “Brave” – Bikers Respect All Veterans Equally, which is a veteran support and fundraising organization set up by a paralyzed Iraq veteran, injured when his vehicle was blown up by an IED and followed up by small arms engagement. A total of £1787.03 was raised which was excellent!

Our managing director Aaron Coombs has set up a charity rugby team at Witham Rugby Club called the Stags. The team consists of players over 35 years of age and social members who can no longer play. The aim of the Stags is to raise as much money as possible throughout the season playing other vets sides in Essex and through various functions and nights out.

So far in their first season they have raised just over £4,500 for charity. In their first season they decided to raise money for 3 separate charities fairly close to the hearts of people within the Witham Rugby Club community, those Charities are: Brainwave and Stock Ward, Broomfield Hospital Breast Cancer Reconstruction Ward and RFU Injured Players Foundation.

The first two charities were involved with and helped a long standing member of the club battle cancer, a battle which unfortunately she lost just over a year ago.

Don't Take Our Word For It....Read What Our Clients Say

I would like to say thanks for all your work in getting the 2 flats I purchased through Cunningtons to completion prior to the end of March (after March I would have of course incurred significant costs in the shape of stamp duty on the buy to let purchases).  In what was not the most straight forward case and with numerous issues raised by the lender, your prompt response and advice ensured the transactions still went through and I thank you sincerely for your efforts.

Particularly with the second purchase being instructed by me with only about 1 month to go before the end of March, it was a very quick turn-around to get that, indeed both, transactions completed in such quick and efficient time.

I have used Cunningtons for almost 15 years, and I would certainly be happy to do so again, including recommending yourself and Cunningtons to friends and family.
